PEMF Therapy
IN ANN ARBOR, MI
Recharge your body at the electromagnetic level, no effort required.
Your body runs on electricity. Every heartbeat, nerve signal, and muscle contraction depends on tiny electrical impulses moving between your cells. Over time, that signaling can slow down as a result of stress, injury, illness, or simply the wear and tear of daily life. And you definitely feel it: low energy, poor sleep, sluggish recovery – it’s like you’re running on empty.
Pulsed Electromagnetic Field (PEMF) therapy works by delivering gentle, low-frequency electromagnetic pulses that support your body's natural electrical communication. Think of it as a tune-up for your cells.
At Ann Arbor Holistic Health, we use the Centropix KLOUD, one of the most advanced PEMF mats available, to deliver whole-body electromagnetic support in a single relaxing session.
And because we understand that no therapy works in isolation, your sessions are guided by practitioners who can help you integrate PEMF into a broader wellness plan.
How Does PEMF Therapy Work?
Tuning Up Your Body's Electrical System
Your cells communicate using electromagnetic signals. When you're healthy, well-rested, and unstressed, your cells are essentially all speaking the same language. They can easily function as a team to handle any challenges your body faces.
But when you're dealing with chronic stress, poor sleep, inflammation, or recovery from illness or injury, that cellular communication starts to break down. And when your cells have trouble understanding each other, they find it hard to get much done.
PEMF therapy delivers pulsed electromagnetic fields at specific frequencies that match the range your body naturally operates in. Those pulses gently encourage your cells to restore their natural charge and improve the electrical signaling between them. In other words, PEMF helps restore and support healthy conversation between your cells, so they can work together again.
The Centropix KLOUD PEMF system uses a broad frequency spectrum of up to 20,000 Hz, which covers the resonance frequencies associated with a wide range of physiological processes. Think of the KLOUD as an interpreter who knows thousands of languages and can easily help facilitate almost every kind of cellular communication.
You simply lie on the KLOUD mat for 15-30 minutes and let the electromagnetic field do the work. No needles, no heat, no sensation at all for most people – just your body's own systems getting the support they need to function at their best.
Benefits of Shockwave Therapy
What Can Focused Shockwave Therapy Support?
Because PEMF works at the cellular level across the whole body, it has numerous applications. Research into pulsed electromagnetic field therapy has been growing for decades, and the evidence supports a range of uses:
Energy & Vitality
When your cells are holding a stronger electromagnetic charge, they produce energy more efficiently. Many PEMF users report improved stamina and mental clarity, especially when sessions are used consistently over time.
Sleep Quality
One of the most commonly reported benefits of PEMF therapy is better sleep. By supporting your body's natural circadian rhythms and helping your nervous system shift into a more relaxed state, regular PEMF sessions may help improve both how quickly you fall asleep and how deeply you stay there.
Recovery & Inflammation
PEMF therapy has been studied for its ability to support the body's natural healing processes, particularly when it comes to soft tissue repair and inflammation. Athletes and active adults often use PEMF as a recovery tool alongside other holistic treatments.
Pain Support
Multiple studies have explored PEMF's potential to support comfort in conditions involving chronic pain, including joint discomfort and post-surgical recovery. It's non-invasive, drug-free, and can be used alongside other therapies.
Stress & Nervous System Balance
Chronic stress keeps your nervous system locked in "go mode.” PEMF therapy can support the shift back toward a calmer baseline, which has ripple effects on everything from digestion to mood to immune function.
Is PEMF Therapy Right for Me?
PEMF therapy is one of the gentlest therapies we offer. Most people feel little or nothing during a session, and side effects are extremely rare.
PEMF is non-invasive, drug-free, and appropriate for most adults. Sessions last just 15 minutes and require nothing more than lying comfortably on a mat.
PEMF therapy tends to be especially well-suited for:
Low energy, brain fog, or general fatigue that doesn't improve with rest
Sleep challenges, including difficulty falling or staying asleep
Chronic inflammation or slow recovery from injury or illness
Stress, tension, or a nervous system that has trouble downshifting
Anyone looking for whole-body cellular support as part of a broader wellness routine
Are there any contraindications?
PEMF therapy is not recommended during pregnancy. We also advise caution for anyone with implanted electronic devices such as pacemakers or insulin pumps, as the electromagnetic fields may interfere with device function.
PEMF should also not be used by individuals with active bleeding disorders or organ transplant recipients on immunosuppressive therapy without physician approval. As with all of our services, please follow your doctor's guidance.
A member of the Ann Arbor Holistic Health team will be on hand before your first session to answer any other questions you may have.
If you're unsure whether PEMF therapy makes sense for you, a free consultation with an AAHH practitioner is a great place to start.
PEMF Therapy at Ann Arbor Holistic Health
The Centropix KLOUD PEMF Mat
The Centropix KLOUD is a professional-grade PEMF mat designed by Professor Wolf A. Kafka, a physicist and neurophysiologist with decades of experience in electromagnetic field research. It's not your average wellness gadget – it's an FDA-registered Class 1 device backed by university-level research.
So what makes it different from the PEMF mats you might see advertised online?
-
Most consumer PEMF devices operate on one or two fixed frequencies. The KLOUD uses a broad-spectrum signal covering frequencies up to 20,000 Hz, a wide range that means one session can support multiple systems at once.
-
The KLOUD's eight large electromagnetic coils provide even distribution across your entire body, rather than concentrating the field in one or two spots. This matters for whole-body cellular support rather than localized treatment alone. However, we can also easily target a specific part of the body by wrapping the mat around the preferred area, so coils are positioned both above and below an injury site or source of pain.
-
The KLOUD offers five distinct session programs: Relax, Balance, Energize, Synchronize, and Recovery, each with its own frequency signature optimized for specific goals. Your practitioner can help you choose the right program based on what you're working toward.
During your session, you'll lie comfortably on the KLOUD mat for approximately 15 minutes. Most people feel nothing at all during the session, though some notice a subtle warmth or gentle tingling. There's no discomfort, no recovery time, and you can return to your day immediately after.
-
PEMF therapy is available as a standalone session, but it also pairs beautifully with several of our other offerings. It's a natural add-on to red light therapy panel sessions, as the two services complement each other at the cellular level. PEMF can also be combined with acupuncture when your practitioner determines it's safe and beneficial.
Many of our clients use PEMF as the foundation of a broader protocol tailored to their individual goals.

PEMF Therapy FAQs
Answers to Common Questions About PEMF Therapy
-
For general wellness, one to two sessions per week is a great starting point. If you're working toward a specific goal, such as sleep improvement, recovery support, or pain management, a more consistent schedule over several weeks tends to produce the most noticeable results. Your practitioner can help you choose the right session number and frequency for your personal goals.
-
Most people feel very little during a PEMF session, if anything. It's one of the most passive therapies we offer. Some clients notice a subtle warmth or light tingling, but many simply relax or close their eyes for 15-30 minutes and feel refreshed afterward. There's no pain, no heat, and no downtime.
-
No. Static magnets produce a constant magnetic field, while PEMF delivers pulsed electromagnetic fields at specific frequencies designed to interact with your body's natural electrical processes. The pulsing is what makes PEMF effective by mimicking the kind of electromagnetic signaling your cells already use.
-
Yes, for the vast majority of healthy adults. PEMF therapy is non-ionizing and has an extensive safety record in both clinical and research settings. The Centropix KLOUD is an FDA-registered Class 1 medical device. There are a small number of contraindications noted in the "Is PEMF Therapy Right for Me?" section above, but side effects are extremely rare.
-
Absolutely. PEMF is one of our most versatile therapies when it comes to pairing. It's available as a direct add-on to red light therapy panel sessions and can be combined with acupuncture when your practitioner determines it's appropriate. Many clients incorporate PEMF into a broader wellness routine that includes infrared sauna, functional nutrition coaching, or other clinic services.
-
Some clients notice improved sleep or a subtle energy lift after just a handful of sessions. For more specific goals, consistency over several weeks tends to tell the real story. Like most things in wellness, PEMF works best as a regular practice rather than a one-time event, as the benefits tend to build with each session.
